King Basil

I love this herb. I add it to anything from salads to soups and pasta dishes and even cocktails! The kids love it too. Jazz up pesto pasta by adding a large handful of torn leaves. And it's great with eggs - try tearing up leaves over scrambled eggs or adding it to egg sandwiches, delicious! At this time of year I love lots of basil with a tomato, mozzarella and avocado salad. You could even try adding it to a fruit pavlova!

The word "basil" derives from the Greek word "basileus," which means "king" and the French often refer to it as "l'herbe royale" (the royal herb), probably because of the many health boosting properties it's reported to have, such as anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, cancer-fighting, pain reducing, and immune boosting!]

TIP: to make it last for as long as possible make sure that it always has water - I put my pot inside another pot which has water in it and the basil will grow roots down to the water and last for months!
